Every member of the Student Union pays a $19.00 fee in the fall and spring semester. The funds are then allocated to clubs, the radio station, the newspaper, DSU events and campaigns as well as the usual costs of running a union. The Executive Council will also occasionally fund external groups who are creating positive, progressive change in the Montréal community.
Each spring the Dawson Student Union has a general assembly where the financial statements of the Union are presented to the membership. This allows students the chance to find how their fees are spent and also give feedback on the Union's budget. Students can also volunteer to be a member of the Finance Committee, which oversees many aspects of the DSU's budget. To learn more about the committee email exec_director at mydsu.ca.
Students also pay a $6 membership fee to the Canadian Federation of Students, Canada's national student movement representing over 80 schools and 500,000 members. To find out more about the CFS visit www.cfs-fcee.ca or stop by the DSU office (2F. 2) to learn more on our campaigns.
